How much silicone grease do you need, and on which parts of your arcade joystick should it be applied? The answer to this question is surprisingly simple – we only need a thin layer of grease applied between the pivot and the joystick body to ensure the pivot glides smoothly in all directions. With use, the lubricant “wears out” and must be reapplied periodically. Usually, the main concern is the age of the lubricant and not the quantity (you only need a tiny bit), but that wasn’t the case with the Limited Edition Seimitsu LSH-56-01 joystick I got recently. The joystick arrived with too much grease which I had to remove before installing it in my controller. The tricky part was that the shaft cover on this joystick doesn’t just slip off. The Seimitsu LSH-56-01 shaft cover is sandwiched between the shaft and the pivot, and I had to partially disassemble the joystick to release the shaft cover so I can clean it.
