In this video, I talk about the 3 main causes of muscle twitches, called tetany, and give you some ways to stop them. You know what I mean! Sometimes it might be a muscle on your upper arm that’s twitching. Or on your face.
These are the 3 main causes:
1. Alkalosis, a condition in which your blood is too alkaline. It’s difficult to test for blood alkalinity because as soon as you draw it, the blood oxidizes and changes the pH. I linked a video below that describes the symptoms of alkalosis.
a.Alkalosis is caused by: decreased potassium or hydrochloric acid in your stomach; high cortisol; and, the use of diuretics. You’re likely low in blood calcium, one of the electrolytes, and so your body can’t properly regulate nerve and muscle impulses, resulting in muscle twitches.
b.Oddly it doesn’t make sense to take more calcium because it’s alkalizing. Instead, you need to drop the pH. More on that in a minute. If you’re on antacids that could be making your body more alkaline.
2. There’s a condition called hypocalcemia (low calcium). It could be coming from low parathyroid hormone, or low vitamin D which is more common. Some of the symptoms are tingling, arrhythmia, psychosis, and low blood pressure.
3. Hypomagnesemia (low magnesium in the blood), creating tremors, spasms, fatigue, arrhythmia, and palpitations. This could be caused by antacids, insulin resistance (a prediabetic condition), antibiotics, low vitamin D, diuretics, and fluoride.
These are the actions steps you can take to stop or prevent muscle twitches:
1. Acidify your body. Consume apple cider vinegar, one to two tablespoons in a glass of water a few times per day. Use a straw to drink it. Or you can take betaine hydrochloride right before you eat to help your digestion.
2. Add magnesium and potassium to your diet. Eat more vegetables, which are full of these minerals.
3. Take vitamin D and lower your stress. Get a water filter to pull out fluoride, and install one for your shower too.
Now you know why you get muscle twitches, and what you can do to stop or prevent them.
