Hagen is a city located in the western part of Germany. It is situated in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and is part of the larger Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region. As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, Hagen had a population of around 188,000 inhabitants.

Hagen is known for its industrial heritage, particularly in the areas of steel and textiles. The city played a significant role in Germany's industrialization during the 19th and 20th centuries. Today, while some industries remain, the city has diversified its economy into other sectors such as services, technology, and education.

The city is characterized by its hilly landscape and is often referred to as the "Gateway to the Sauerland," a nearby mountainous region popular for outdoor activities such as hiking and skiing.
