Cold War Civil Defense Bunker / Lost Places / Urban Exploration

This small type of bunker was built in large numbers in the area of the former GDR, mainly for the "Kreiseinsatzleitungen". Together with the regional task forces, the "Kreiseinsatzleitungen" (KEL, District Operations Control) formed the "branch system" of the GDR's National Defense Council. Originally created to coordinate internal security precautions in the event of another popular uprising like the one on June 17, 1953, they had been responsible for the system of state, economic, infrastructural and social preparation of the GDR for war at district level since the 1960s. In contrast to the regional commands however, the subordinate KEL played a lesser role. Their nationwide development took place only gradually from 1956 and continued into the early 1970s.
This particular bunker, however, was not used as such, but as a control center for the civil defense and air-raid protection of a large Kerosene factory.
