Summer In The City - Quincy Jones - Bass Cover - Request

Hello :)

This is the requested transcription I did of the Quincy Jones version of the song "Summer In The City" from his 1973 album "You Got It Bad Girl". Chuck Rainey was the bass player on this track.

This is one of the more advanced songs I've learned over the years, and I'm really happy have to have spent the time on it. Thank you for the suggestion Dave :)

A big part of why I think it's difficult is because of the different sounds and techniques I think he's using. From what my ears and instincts tell me, he's using his thumb with some palm muting, his fingers, double stops, slides, plucking and false harmonics...there's a lot going on!

I saw a video of him where he talks about working with Quincy and how Quincy would tell the musicians to grab some paper and he would sing rhythms and give them chords and within 10 minutes they had a chart...that's pretty cool! :)

To imagine him coming up with this line from that process just shows how creative and how much of a master he is of the instrument. What he came up with is just...wow!

The rhythms and the way he plays the full range of the instrument is challenging. I had to really try and focus on this one. There's a lot of little things and variations going on. It's really easy to make a mistake in this one.

If you're up for the challenge, this has a great feel to try and match and the rhythms and techniques are sure to challenge ;)
