While on my balcony in Chennai, I noticed an unfamiliar bird staring at me. Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a Rosy-faced Lovebird, a species native to Africa and rarely seen in India. This intriguing sight left me surprised and concerned. It appears this bird may have been kept as a pet and escaped. Sadly, cases of exotic birds being abandoned or lost due to negligence are not uncommon.

In this video, I document this fascinating encounter with the Rosy-faced Lovebird and discuss why these vibrant birds are unsuited for captivity outside their native habitat. I also explore the broader implications of keeping exotic birds as pets and the responsibilities that come with it.

Join me in reflecting on the challenges faced by such birds when they are displaced from their natural environment and what steps can be taken to prevent such scenarios.
