Hudson Bay, A Marginal Sea Of The Arctic Ocean, Situated In Northeastern Canada. Covering A Total Surface Area Of 1,230,000 Square Kilometres, Hudson Bay Is The Largest Inland (Epicontinental) Sea In The World And Is Considered As The Second Largest Bay In The World After The Bay Of Bengal.
The Hudson Bay Is Named After Henry Hudson, An English Explorer Who Sailed Into The Bay In 1610, While Searching For A Northwest Passage To Asia. The Hudson Bay Has The Longest Shoreline Of Any Bay In North America And Indents Deeply Into East-central Canada. It Borders The Canadian Provinces Of Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, And Nunavut (Canadian Territory). The Hudson Bay Is Approximately 1,370 Km Long And 1,050 Km Wide. The Bay Is Relatively Shallow With An Average Depth Of About 100 Meters And A Maximum Depth Of 270 Meters. The Hudson Bay Is Connected To The Atlantic Ocean By The Hudson Strait In The Northeast And The Arctic Ocean In The North By The Foxe Channel And Fury And Hecla Strait.
Although The Bay Covers Only 1,230,000 Square Kilometres In Total Surface Area . The Drainage Basin Of The Bay Is Quite Larger. Its Drainage Basin Covers An Area Of 3,861,400 Square Kilometres And Includes Parts Of Five Canadian Provinces (Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, And Quebec), Two Canadian Territories (Northwest Territories And Nunavut), And Small Portions Of Four U.s. States (Montana, South Dakota, North Dakota, And Minnesota).
Numerous Large And Small Rivers Drain Into The Hudson Bay. Some Of These Rivers Include The Kazan River ,The Dubawnt River, Churchill, Eastmain, Grande, Nelson, Severn, And Winisk.
