The Region Of Bengal Is Now Divided Into The Indian State Of West Bengal And The Country Of Bangladesh.
The Bay Of Bengal Stretches Over A Maximum Length Of 2,090 Km And A Maximum Width Of 1,610 Km. It Has An Average Depth Of 2,600 Meters And A Maximum Depth Of 4,694 Meters. Numerous Rivers Drain Into The Bay Of Bengal, Including Major Rivers Like The Ganges, Brahmaputra, The Mahanadi, Krishna, Kaveri, Godavari And The Irrawaddy River.

The Bay Of Bengal Is Home To Several Islands Including The Andaman And Nicobar Islands, Which Belong To India, And The Coco Islands, Which Are Part Of Myanmar. The Andaman And Nicobar Island Group Separate The Bay Of Bengal From The Andaman Sea. The Bay Southern Limit Is A Line Between Sangaman Kanda, And Sumatra.

Various Coastal Cities Are Situated On The Bay Of Bengal, Such As Chennai, Vishakapatnam, Chittagong, Sittwe, Trincomalee .


The Bay Of Bengal Holds Great Importance Due To Its Geopolitical, Economic, And Environmental Significance. It Is As A Strategic Waterway Connecting South Asia With Southeast Asia.major Shipping Lanes Connect The Bay Of Bengal Region With The Persian Gulf And The Mediterranean Sea, Africa, Europe And The Americas. The Bay Also Serves As A Gateway To The Strait Of Malacca, One Of The Busiest And Most Important Shipping Lanes In The World, Connecting The Indian Ocean To The South China Sea.

The Great Nicobar Island Of India Along With The Sumatra Island Of Indonesia Serves As One The Two Entry Point Of The Strait Of Malacca. Roughly A Quarter Of The World Sea Trade Passes Through The Strait Of Malacca And Countries Such As China, Japan, South Korea And Other East Asian Countries Are Heavily Depended On The Oil Imports That Pass Through The Straits, More Than 15 Million Barrels Of Oil Per Day Passes Through The Strait To These Countries. Roughly 80% Of China's Crude Oil Imports Passes Through Malacca Strait. Thus Bay Of Bengal Plays A Significant Role In The Geopolitics In The Region.
