• T&T is once again under a State of Public Emergency after the National Security Council (NSC) advised President Christine Kangaloo to act amid escalating gang violence and intelligence of threats against members of the protective services.
• Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar confirmed that the new State of Emergency took effect on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, following an emergency meeting of the NSC at the Diplomatic Centre on Monday.
• The declaration grants authorities expanded powers in an effort to curb gang activity and restore public safety as the country braces for heightened security operations in the days ahead.

• Opposition leader Pennelope Beckles has cautioned the public and media to closely examine the emergency powers regulations of 2026, arguing that they fail to address the issues cited by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar in her announcement of a new state of emergency on Tuesday, March 3rd.

THA says ‘no gang escalation’ on the island as government imposes nationwide State of Emergency.
• The Tobago House of Assembly (THA), led by chief secretary Farley Augustine, says there is currently no evidence of escalating gang activity or coordinated criminal threats on the island, even as a nationwide state of emergency (SoE) has been declared in Trinidad and Tobago.

Prominent Arima bookseller Gunned Down Outside Arima Home ON Monday.
• A 69-year-old man was shot and killed outside his home in Santa Rosa Heights on Monday evening.
• The deceased has been identified as Azard Pooran of Plumrose Avenue.
• Police enquiries revealed that shortly before 6:00 p.m., Pooran had returned home from his family business, Shock “N” Stock Book Seller and Stationery Store in Arima, and drove into his garage. While he was exiting his vehicle, a lone armed man reportedly entered the compound through a gate along the eastern side and fired several shots into the vehicle.

Entry denied: police and security face-off as robbery unfolds during victim’s zoom meeting in East Lakes; suspects fled minutes before officers were eventually allowed entry.
