There are briefly four types of meditation. The first one is concentrated meditation in which you focus on an object, which could be your breath, a thought, a form, visualization and also it could be nothing. The second is contemplated meditation in which you pick up anything that you know nothing about and you start reflecting on it and your answers start coming from within. In contemplated meditation you can pick up any habit or thought or tendency of yours and start reflecting upon it. For example why do you react the way you do or how do you response in a particular situation and you start analyzing it. This leads to your path to self-purification.

The third type of meditation is witness meditation in which you simply observe your thoughts. You become an audience. Once you become an audience to your own life and keep watching what is happening, a lot of your negative reactions will simply disappear. Even if you want to react negative, you wont’ be able to. The fourth type is absorptive meditation in which you are completely absorbed like playing chess or solving a problem or solving a crossword. You are totally immersed in that experience.
