On 14 September 2020, a 19-year-old Dalit in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras was allegedly raped and brutalised in Hathras, following which she passed away. She was then cremated in the dead of the night by the administration. The story got enormous attention at the time and led to widespread outrage.
