CES 2022: How C-V2X and the Snapdragon Digital Chassis make vulnerable road users safer

At CES 2022, Director of Business Development Praveen Singh discusses the cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) capabilities of the Snapdragon Digital Chassis.

An increasingly important part of the Qualcomm automotive technology suite, our C-V2X solutions include vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I), vehicle-to-pedestrian (V2P), and vehicle-to-cloud (V2C) communication. In this video, Singh focuses on the ability of C-V2X tech to keep vulnerable road users (bicyclists, pedestrians, scooter riders, etc.) safe and connected to other motorists.

Singh notes that a vulnerable road user dies in an accident every 85 minutes in the United States. To create safer road conditions for vulnerable road users (in this case, bicyclists), Qualcomm is collaborating with Spoke Safety to develop a C-V2X solution for two-wheel road users. Singh introduces Spoke Safety CTO Reid Segity to demonstrate the safety technology.

Segity explains that Spoke Safety — in collaboration with Qualcomm — developed a C-V2X solution that allows cars to see bikes, and bikes to see cars. Its sleek, compact form factor can be tucked underneath a water bottle or inside a saddle bag, and it enables drivers and bikes to connect to one another, making for safer roads for everyone. Segity explains that in 75 percent of accidents involving automobiles and bikes, the motorist claims to have simply not seen the biker. The new C-V2X solution from Spoke Safety has the potential to change that — and usher in a safer era of transportation.
