The rich treasure trove that is Latin literature holds some quite amusing stories. Cicero, in particular, has a knack for relating stories in a succinct and powerful manner. It is indeed a Tullian story that today’s Loci & Locutiones is about. In this video I read the text as well as explain and retell the difficult parts in Latin.

In his work ”De Officiis” (On Duty) he relates a story about the Roman knight C. Canius who is looking to buy a villa to spend his leisure time. Unfortunately, he runs in to Pythius, who sees an opportunity to make a handsome amount of money. Playing on Canius’ desire to buy, he adopts quite a creative strategy to increase the value of his property that he aims to sell. How will it all turn out? Watch the video!
