Raga Khamaj and Bhairavi on the Sarod I Ustad Amjad Ali Khan at The BCMF 2014

Ustad Amjad Ali Khan is sixth in the line of musicians in the Senia Bangash gharana. The Bangash school is known for having transformed and fine-tuned the shape of the Sarod from the Afghan Rabab, over 200 years ago. The Ustad’s stellar accomplishment as a musician is derived from an illustrious family heritage closely linked to Mia Tansen and his disciples.
Amjad Ali Khan learnt music at a very early age from his father, the legendary Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan. He is known for playing Sarod in the ‘been’ style, with fast paced ‘ekhara taans’. In third edition of the Bengal Classical Music Festival held in Dhaka in 2014, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan played Raag Khamaj and Bhairavi on the Sarod. His rendition was greatly appreciated by the audience.
