Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud is set to retire on November 10, 2024, and has recommended Justice Sanjiv Khanna as his successor, marking him to become the 51st Chief Justice of India. Born on May 14, 1960, Justice Khanna enrolled as an advocate in 1983 and has since built a distinguished career in various fields of law, including constitutional, commercial, and environmental law.

Despite being ranked 33rd in seniority, Justice Khanna's integrity and merit led to his appointment as a Supreme Court Judge in 2019. Over the years, he has presided over significant cases, including granting interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and being part of the bench that upheld the abrogation of Article 370.

Justice Khanna will serve as Chief Justice until May 2025, continuing to uphold justice and constitutional values in India’s judiciary.
