15 Reasons NOT To Set Up A Bluebird Box

This video goes through a lot of "reasons" not to become a bluebird landlord. This is not to discourage you but to show you how difficult it can be and how much care bluebirds, tree swallows, chickadees, house wrens, and other native cavity birds need.

The very last reason not to get into hosting bluebirds is one of the toughest parts about managing bluebirds and is a very sensitive topic. Understand that the information in this video is for educational purposes. The last reason, involves the conservation practice of culling the population of non-native, invasive bird species like the house sparrow and European starling. Culling these species in North America as a conservation effort employs live trapping and euthanasia after proper bird identification. While these birds are not federally protected, and this practice is legal in most states, it is absolutely necessary for you to look up the specific legal regulations of your state and local area, as it differs from place to place before engaging in trapping, euthanasia or even passive methods of non-native, invasive bird population control.
