Cave Diving - Iddlebiddy Cave, Mount Gambier 2023

A compilation of GoPro footage from an afternoon of diving with the Soggy Wombats in Iddlebiddy Cave in 2023.

Iddlebiddy Cave (official CEGSA cave reference number 5L250) was reportedly first explored in 1983 or 1984., and has been accessible to Advanced Cave level members of the Australian cave diving community since the late 90s.

The cave while requiring a wire ladder to access, is a beautiful dive, taking the form of a single large passage running south-east for about 250 metres or so from the entrance chamber, and ending in a small and extremely silty room which appears to be a cavity in a large clay deposit.

The cave contains many delicate features including areas of easily-damaged tessellated clay and very soft walls in the passage. The multi-layered clay blocks are often precariously perched on wall ledges or at the very edge of sharp-edged boulders so sound technique is essential in order to avoid damaging them.

The site is currently rated as Advanced Cave level, and only accessible by suitably qualified divers.
