Masada Fortress was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2001.
I am glad to take you all on an outstanding tour of Masada Fortress.
If you visit Israel, you must go to the Dead Sea and see the Masada Fortress. It's really incredible. The best advice is to arrive early. The Snake Path opens at approximately 5.30 a.m. Walking up the Snake Path to the Fortress is a "experience" that you should have at least once if you are reasonably fit.
Alternatively there is an option of taking a cable car.
Masada is truly a must visit site in Israel.
Masada Fortress is located high above the Dead Sea, some 400 meters up.
Herod the Great was a Roman client king of Judea. He was also a great builder.
He built the fortress of Masada between 37 and 31 BCE. If you like archaeology, you’ll enjoy the brilliance of this builder.
A group of Jewish rebels defeated the Roman garrison of Masada 75 years after Herod's death, at the start of the Jewish Revolt against the Romans in 66 CE.
The Herod the Great Palace at Masada is an excellent example of a lavish villa from the Early Roman Empire, while the camps and other fortifications that surround the monument are among the finest and most complete Roman siege works that have survived to the present day.
We spend hours wandering the fortress and highly recommend Masada to everyone!
