Roland SC-7 song selection (MIDI playback demo)

Описание к видео Roland SC-7 song selection (MIDI playback demo)

The Roland SC-7 may be the tiniest and least featureful of the Sound Canvas family, but don't underestimate it, it packs a punch! I've had one for almost a year now, and I love it, so I was disappointed to find that most of the demos of it on YouTube were pretty uninspiring. So here's 40 minutes of songs that really make it shine. :)

Important note: almost all of these MIDI files weren't written with the SC-7 in mind, they're mostly for the Roland SC-55/Roland GS standard, or just plain General MIDI. The SC-7 is clearly a derivative of the SC-55, but it is stripped down a fair bit, so it has less instrument sounds available, and it won't respond to a lot of MIDI commands specific to the SC-55 or GS standard. For example, the SC-7 won't respond to the GS commands to change the reverb and chorus type, or to change the attack and release envelope on a sound. Therefore, some of these songs will sound better on the SC-55. But they can still sound pretty great on the SC-7! Some of them could be tweaked to sound better on it, but I've chosen not to do that here.

I recorded the screen and audio in two different programs and synced them up in post, so the audio might not be perfectly in sync, sorry. I also normalised the volumes in post. The MIDI visualiser is an English patched version of Fummy's "TMIDI Player". Note that I set it to SC-55mkII mode, because that's the closest relative of the SC-7, but this means some things on screen represent what an SC-55mkII would do, not what the SC-7 does. For example, GS "variation instruments" aren't supported on the SC-7.

If you have any questions about the SC-7, please leave a comment, I would be really happy to tell you more!

Yes, the last song is by me. It's not vanity, I just thought it'd be a shame not to include something that takes advantage of the SC-7's low-pass filter, and I don't know of anyone else who's done that.
