My name is Joshua Vojtisek and I'm a sustainable living major at MUM. I interned with two other interns Jake Roberts and Emily June Breffle. We built a natural house with John Freeberg and his partner Susan. On my internship we pretty much started from scratch on the natural home building project with leveling the ground for the foundation and then in the leveled ground we put all sorts of drainage tiles and diversion water systems and insulation and metal in order to protect from frost and water and rodents like gofers and stuff that bury underneath houses and mess things up. From there we started building the walls up. We used conventional wood timber framing like most buildings are made out of. The roof is a living roof so it's going to have plants on it like a garden so it's going to have a lot of dirt and rocks on it because it's going to have to bear a lot of weight.

Susan, John Freebergs partner is pretty experienced with regards to straw bale home construction and in particular plasters which is a science in of itself and she's pretty knowledgeable on the topic. So that was good being able to have that experience with both the conventional construction because John Freeberg spent his whole life doing construction so he's very well versed in that topic.
