In this video I wanted to show you how to operate a ball valve that has a pneumatic actuator. This valve is a 20" Class 600 3pce Trunnion mounted ball valve. The valve originally had a gear operator on it but the customer wanted a fail close pneumatic actuator. The term fail close means that they want this valve to close in the event something happens in the system.

Before we perform any modification we always perform a hydro test. The reason is because if you have something that needs to be fixed it is much easier to do with out having to remove the actuator.

This actuator is a single acting actuator "Commonly referred to as spring-return actuators, a single-acting pneumatic actuator uses air to open the valve and a mechanical spring (or springs) to close the valve."

There is a lot that goes into mounting an actuator like this. The actuators bushing had to be machined in order to fit the valve stem. You have to adjust the mounting plate and the list goes on and on. For the video I wanted to give you all a quick overview of how it works and all the parts that go into it.

I really hope everyone enjoys the valve content we post. Any suggestions or questions are always appreciated. if you have any questions please leave down in the comment below. Thanks you for watching everything valves and well see you in the next video.
