DIY Thermal Brick Space Heater! - Over 10 Lbs. of Thermal Mass! - Works Awesome! - Only 12v 90w!

Описание к видео DIY Thermal Brick Space Heater! - Over 10 Lbs. of Thermal Mass! - Works Awesome! - Only 12v 90w!

this one might be the best small space heater i've ever made... and super easy to make. it only has 2 parts to it. the bricks and the heating elements! it's a passive design (so no fans or moving parts) and super efficient (uses only three 28 Watt 220C flat ceramic ptc heating elements! total power draw is only 84-90 watts! each brick is 5.2 lbs. so over 10 lbs. of high density thermal mass storage per unit! it's 12v so all you need to run it is One 12v 100w solar panel (or a 12v battery). each element pulls an estimated 2 to 2 1/3rd amps (6-7 amps total) at full power. just plug it in and the heat from the elements is absorbed into the thermal mass (the bricks). heats up slowly and evenly. once hot, the unit radiates noticeable heat outward for several feet in all directions. ***UPDATE: i just posted a video (on 11/09/2020) showing a double sized version of this set up. if interested, here's the link to that video.    • DIY Ceramic Space Heater! 20+Lbs Ther...   The tests: within 30 mins brick temp reached 150F, by 1-1.5 hr mark it was 170's-180s *and over 200F in 2hrs 45mins! Note that once it's hot the unit will output heat for several hours even after the power is shut off! another plus is that's it's "cloud resistant" in the sense that once its hot, it'll radiate heat consistently even if clouds occasionally block the power source (sun hitting the solar panel). you probably won't even notice any heat drop if it's just a few small ones. The cost: ptc ceramic elements are 2 for $10 (or one for $7.50) and bricks just 50 cents each! use the 220c ones. they're officially rated 220c (=/- 10 degrees). that's 428F (with top end of 446F). i got a top reading of 444F so right on target. takes about 40 mins to 1 hr to start really cranking out the heat. gets to over 200F. not sure how much higher it will get but i got 206F at 3 hrs. and that was with a window open letting in cold air. in testing, the room temp (within a few feet of unit) went up from upper 60's to 82-84. if your living in a small space like rv or van, one or two of these should help you a lot. want more heat? make two! 4 bricks and 6 elements. still only 180w total. should heat a small 10x10 room. when filming i was too hot and had to open up a window and cool off the room. notes on the bricks... in my experience, bricks like these can easily handle the temps that are generated by the elements - i make rocket stoves using these and those get two to three times as hot (or 800-1200F). never had a brick crack yet. *that's all that typically happens is hairline cracks if overheated. *if a crack does form, the bricks are only 50 cents so no biggie. remember of course to set the whole unit on something sturdy and heat tolerant like a cooking trivet. i used a small steel stand. final thoughts: unit can potentially be used as a mug warmer or plate warmer too. just set mug or plate on top. make sure plate or mug you're using can handle the heat. this video started as a cooker video. i was planning on making a 12v frying pan. i switched because i noticed so much heat coming off of it. (so i'll make that video later - but i've included some footage on that in the last minute of this video, so you can see how it started). as a possible upgrade to this heater, consider using soapstone instead of standard brick. i haven't looked into it that much, but i hear those are great at holding heat. please rate, sub and share!
