Back in the early 1980’s I always wore fingerpicks and a thumb pick when I wrote, performed or recorded music on the guitar, no matter what type of composition I was playing. “Accufuse” originally came out on my 1984 Flying Fish album Playing By Ear. It was such an extreme example of the sound, texture and energy of steel fingerpicks on a steel-string guitar — and so fun to play — that I continued to perform it live, and actually re-recorded it twelve years later on a baritone guitar for my 1996 album Ladies Night. When I wrote the tune I was very enamoured of jazz-rock fusion music. The name “Accufuse” was my self-imagined portmanteau of “acoustic” and “fusion”, with a hint of the word “accurate” thrown in. Filmed in 1995 at Milestones in Rochester NY by Andrew Jurman.
