Big thanks to Jerome Bee Farm & Homestead for the intro video.    / darrenjerome

I got this swarm call on June 12th kind of early in the day while in the middle of a hive removal. I called around trying to find someone who could help and no one else was available so I told them if the bees were still there after I got done with my hive removal and got cleaned up then I'd run over and get them. I finished what I was doing, went home, got cleaned up but had really forgotten about the swarm call. I was just going to relax for the evening. About the time I sat down I got a call from Dawn, the sweet heart in the video, to make sure I was still coming because the swarm seemed to be growing, she was terrified of bees and she was scared the swarm would move into her house. It was about an hour and a half before sunset at that point and I wasn't totally burned out from the day so I threw some shoes on, grabbed my everything bee vac and took the twenty minute drive east to their house.

Upon arrival I was met at the street by Dawn and her husband. Dawn was really afraid but I talked her into walking over by the bees with me just so she could see that there was really nothing to fear. I even gave her a veil to wear. Did she conquer her fear of bees? Not a chance but now she is educated about them. They were super nice and Dawn was so fun which is why she made it in the video obviously. It took approximately an hour to get the swarm collected so Dawn, her husband and the neighbor took advantage of that time for a honey bee Q&A. They had never seen a bee swarm before and were just lucky enough to witness a multi queen swarm. I found three queens in this group. One was mated and two were virgins. One of the virgins was dead when I got there but still had bees hanging out with her.

About half way through getting this swarm a friend text to ask if I was still coming. That's when I remembered that several days earlier I had agreed to dinner plans. I quickly called my wife and asked her to run down and meet with them until I could get there. She was a little irritated with me but she went. By the time I arrived, really sweaty and probably a little smelly too, my good friends had been sitting at Applebees waiting on me for well over an hour. They had already eaten and my food had been at the table to a half hour. They hung in there though and we had a really good time. We had to call it a night when the wives looked like they were falling over tired.

With everything I had going on I didn't record much of the capture. What you see in this video is about all I recorded.

I set these bees up in a ten frame Langstroth box as you see here and the next day they were covering eight frames and then some. That's a pretty big swarm if you don't know.
