Usually anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgeries are day care surgeries where patient gets admitted in the morning, procedure is done in the afternoon and patient can go home in the night. It is a simple procedure since it is done under the arthroscopy. You need not have to stay in the hospital for long. The rehabilitation or the recovery will be very faster. After surgery the patient can start moving around in the same day. We allow him to move around with partial weight bearing. The rehabilitation protocol for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction will be we will put the patient on a knee brace for a week to 15 days initially. After that we need to start the closed chain exercises where the patient will be doing around 30 to 60 degrees of movement. After that we will start open chain exercises. We will allow the patient to climb the chairs at the end of 3 weeks. We will be allowing him to do jogging around 6 weeks and the patient will be able to run at the end of 3 months.
