These lifts are situated in a tower block in the city of Biel, Switzerland.
The original lifts were installed in 1960 by Schindler, when the tower block was built.
In 2015 they have undergone a very interesting modernization/replacement. The most notable fact of this modernization is that the lifts have stayed conventional and have not been converted to MRLs. The bigger of the two lifts has been FULLY REPLACED, everything here is new. The counterweight and the car of the smaller lift are still original Schindler components.
The most interesting detail in the motor room is the MX10 motor of the smaller lift which has been mounted on an extra stand that is set up at an angle in the motor room.
The biggest and only downside of this installation is the horribly slow speed. While the data tag on the smaller motor states that it actually could run 1.5m/s, both of th lifts run at 1m/s which is an unbearably slow speed for 17 floors. This is even a downgrade from the old lifts that would have ran with 1.2m/s.
