Vellamalai estate is located nearby Valparai Town. Tunnel is about 3.8 kilometers away from Valparai.One of the most tranquil places to visit in Valparai is the Vellamalai Tunnel River, which is locally known as the Koolangal River. This popular Tunnel River is approximately 3km from the main town of Valparai.

Grass Hills National Park is a protected area in the Western Ghats, India, and a part of the Anamalai Tiger Reserve, forming its boundary with Eravikulam National Park in neighbouring Kerala state. It is not an actual National Park. It spreads over 65,000 hectares.The landscape is a combination of peaks and high plateaus above 2,000 metres (6,600 ft) MSL composed of montane shola-grassland ecosystem that is unique to the higher ranges of the Western Ghats of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

This is one of the most exciting and the best picnic spot in Valparai to visit. Koolangal River is one of the most preferred tourist destinations in Valparai. Slow-flowing, shallow river known for its pebble stone bottom amid verdant, grassy surrounds.
