The Temperance Seven - Everybody Loves My Baby (in stereo!)

Описание к видео The Temperance Seven - Everybody Loves My Baby (in stereo!)

The Temperance Seven play the classic 1920s song "Everybody Loves My Baby" in full stereo! This video is taken from the 1962 film "It's Trad, Dad!" (known in the U.S.A as "Ring-A-Ding Rhythm"), a musical comedy featuring a variety of jazz performers and some rock and roll acts. It was director Richard Lester's first feature film - he also directed The Beatles first two films, "Help!" and "A Hard Day's Night".

All other versions of the soundtrack use the mono version of the Temperance Seven's recording of this number. The quality of the stereo track is much better.

The Temperance Seven was founded in late 1955 by students at the Chelsea School of Art; the three founder members were vocalist Paul McDowell (who originally played trombone), saxophonist Philip Harrison (who originally played banjo) and Brian Innes (drums). Gradually, the band evolved into a nine-piece ensemble, which included John R T Davies (trombone, alto sax, cornet), who also wrote many of the band's arrangements and gave the outfit a more polished sound. The arrangements were mainly based on original 1920s recordings by the likes of the Savoy Havana Band and the Goofus Five. As well as being a fine musician, John R T Davies was also a hugely respected sound engineer, a leading specialist in restoring 78s for reissue on LP (and later, CD).

The Temperance Seven had a light-hearted and humorous performing style - as evinced here - although they were musicians who took their music seriously. The full personnel for this soundtrack is as follows:-

Paul McDowell - vocals; Cephas Howard - trumpet (and leader); John R T Davies - trombone, alto saxophone; Alan Swainston Cooper - clarinet, bass clarinet, soprano saxophone; Philip Harrison - tenor saxophone, bass saxophone; Colin Bowles - piano; John Gieves-Watson - banjo; Martin Fry - sousaphone; Brian Innes - drums/percussion.
