The quadriceps, or quads, are a group of four muscles located at the front of the thigh: vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, vastus intermedius, and rectus
femoris. These muscles play a crucial role in knee extension and hip flexion, contributing to activities like walking, running, and jumping. Massage therapy targeting the quads can enhance flexibility, reduce muscle tension, and alleviate soreness. Techniques such as effleurage, petrissage, myofascial release neuromuscular & medical massage can be employed to enhance blood circulation and promote healing & relaxation. However, therapists should be cautious with deep pressure, especially around the knee. Common quad injuries include strains, tears, and patellar tendonitis, emphasizing the need for careful assessment and tailored therapeutic approaches to facilitate recovery and prevent further damage.
