세계 고릴라의 날 기념 고리나 영상 모음집 A collection of "Gorina" videos to celebrate World Gorilla Day

세게 고릴라의 날을 기념하여 우리나라에 있는 유일한 고릴라 서부 로랜드 고릴라 "고리나" 의 모습은 담은 영상 모음집을 만들어 보았습니다. 고리나는 야생 출신 개체로, 1978년 이전 출생(확실하지 않음) 이후 1984년 11월 서울대공원 개관 이후 들여왔습니다. 고리나가 서울대공원에 온지 올해로 40년 입니다. 그동안 고리나는 고리롱과의 사별, 우지지와의 사별을 겪고 혼자가 되었습니다. 긴 세월 동안 고리나는 동물원에 갇혀 살았습니다. 이제 동물원은 그녀의 삶의 전부입니다. 고리나는 자신이 태어난 야생을 기억할까요? 우지지나 다른 고릴라가 그립지는 않을까요... 나이에 비해 정정한 모습과 사람을 좋아하여 소통하는 모습으로 위안을 얻어봅니다.

영상 마지막에 있는 우지지의 사진은 제가 직접 촬영한 우지지 사진의 거의 전부 입니다. 우지지의 사망은 제가 사진 기록과 영상 기록을 시작한 계기입니다. 생전의 모습을 남겨놓지 못했다는것, 더 주의 깊게 관찰하지 못했다는것이 너무도 후회스럽습니다. 우지지가 죽기 전날조차 저는 우지지를 그냥 지나쳤습니다. 2022년 10월 3일 우지지가 사망하고 나서 제 삶에는 많은 변화가 생겼습니다. 우지지를 제일 그리워하는건 어쩌면 고리나가 아닌 저 일지도 모릅니다.

Celebrating World Gorilla Day, I made a video collection of the only gorilla in Korea called "Gorina," a western lowland gorilla. Gorina is an individual from the wild, which has been brought in since its opening in Seoul Grand Park in November 1984 after being born before 1978. This year marks the 40th anniversary of Gorina's came to Seoul Grand Park. Until now, Gorina has been alone after suffering a bereavement to Gorirong and one to Ujji. For many years, Gorina lived in a zoo. Now the zoo is everything in her life. Will Gorina remember the wild where she was born? Will she miss Ujiji and other gorillas? ... I take solace from her healthy movements compared to her peers and her communication with friendly people.

The picture of Ujiji at the end of the video is almost all of the pictures I took of Ujiji myself. Ujiji's death was the trigger for me to start recording photos and videos. I regret not being able to leave a trace of his life and observe it more carefully. I passed him even on the eve of his death. Since Ujiji died on Oct. 3, 2022, many changes have been made in my life. The person who misses Ujiji the most is probably me, not Gorina.
