If Our Brains Can't Distinguish between the Virtual World and the Real World, How Do We Know What's Real?

As a society we are continuing to spend more and more time in the virtual world but recent research has found that it's beginning to shape the way we think and the way we act in the real world.

Jim is Professor of Psychological and Brain Sciences and Co-Director of the Research Center for Virtual Environments and Behavior which he co-founded with perceptual scientist, Jack Loomis, in 1997.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
