Jaya Ram at Bukit Merah Wood Factory,
9 & 10 Dec was a stunning success. Those in Ipoh who missed Jaya Ram at the Wood Factory have missed something truly special.

This alternative venue at the outskirts of Ipoh was unique and a truly great find. The Wood Factory is destined to future glory as an alternative venue in Malaysia - it’s too magical to pass off by arts group in Malaysia.

Sutra’s lighting designer, Sivarajah Natarajan had a field time transforming the venue into a mythical subterranean haven where Sutra dancers transmogrified into celestial creatures to participate and enact magical Myths of Creation.

It was synchronicity that Jaya Ram saw one of its most astonishing & astounding stage manifestations when we almost despaired at finding a suitable venue for Ipoh. Seemingly, it was as if Jaya Ram’s whole raison d’etre waited to come to life for this eventual staging!

And to think that we almost gave up performing this Odissi production in Ipoh (and Penang) for its last performance of the year!
