Middle NZ Vol 07 F

7. Thanks to my good friend who shot these videos around the lower North Island and upper South Island at the beginning of the 21st century. He wishes to remain anonymous but has made them available to me for editing and upload to YouTube.

This video was shot with a DV handycam. Now that I look back a couple of decades there is so much has changed in the middle region that these videos are already a fantastic record of our central railways activities.

The photography is awesome and these videos were shot around the "The Twins" era, with several liveries and lots of freight and passenger action including Dc and Dx regular action still in the North Island.

I really like those photo locations on the Thorndon hills, I have only been there a few times but it is one of my favorite video and train watching locations. Some more great shots of not only the Wellington yards but also freights and metro traffic heading in and out on various lines. Also a brief sighting of shipping and some great views of the Hutt highway road traffic alongside trains.

This time most the second half of this video is around Picton and some shots further south including some of helicopters fighting forest fires..... Dx's paired with Dq helpers also working hard in and out of Picton and beyond. Didn't the Dq class put out some wonderful sound, and somewhat different to our similar Dc class as well.
