Columns specified in USP monographs are usually designated by an “L” classification; for example, L-1 refers to columns bonded with a C18 functional group. Many scientists expect equivalent retention and selectivity from columns with the same L designation. In this episode of Trust Your Science, we evaluate a number of C18 columns under identical conditions, to either prove or disprove if these columns are truly equivalent. Kim Haynes and Jonathan Turner are chromatography experts at Waters.
