4th Grade Math 6.6, Compare Fractions Using Benchmarks

Описание к видео 4th Grade Math 6.6, Compare Fractions Using Benchmarks

We can use benchmarks to compare fractions. A benchmark is a known size or amount that helps us understand a different size or amount. We can use models of fraction strips or a fraction wall, common denominators, or benchmarks on a number line to compare fractions. We can look at the numerator, compare it to the denominator, and if the numerator is half the amount of the denominator, then the fraction is equal to 1/2. We solve several problems using less than or greater than to compare fractions. We can use 0, 1/2, and 1 as benchmarks to quickly compare fractions. When the numerator and denominator are the same, the fraction is equal to 1. We find a numerator that will make an inequality statement true. We solve two word problems involving comparing fractions to the benchmark 1/2.
