大黄米是植物黍的种仁，又称黍米。《孟子滕文公》称五谷为“稻、黍、稷、麦、菽”。
稻：(dào)水稻，脱壳后为大米。
黍（shǔ）：黍子，脱壳后为大黄米。
稷：(jì)多指粟，脱壳后为小米。
麦：(mài)小麦，磨粉后是面粉。
菽：（shū）大豆类，包括黄豆，黑豆，青豆等豆类。

Millet is the kernel of the millet plant, also known as sorghum. The Mencius (Teng Wen Gong chapter) lists the five grains as "rice, millet, sorghum, wheat, and beans."

Rice: (dào) paddy rice, which becomes rice after hulling.
Millet: sorghum, which becomes millet after hulling.
Sorghum: (jì) millet, which becomes millet after hulling.
Wheat: (mài) wheat, which becomes flour after grinding.
Beans: (shū) soybeans, including yellow soybeans, black soybeans, green soybeans, etc.

自古以来，黍就是日常的主食。唐·孟浩然《过故人庄》“故人具鸡黍，邀我至田家。绿树村边合，青山郭外斜”。鸡黍就是鸡肉与黍米饭，也是农家款待客人的丰富饭菜，代表真挚友情和田园之乐，尽显淳朴亲切。

The Tang Dynasty poet Meng Haoran wrote in his poem "Visiting an Old Friend's Farm": "My old friend prepared chicken and millet, inviting me to his farmhouse. Green trees surround the village, and green mountains slope beyond the town." Chicken and millet, consisting of chicken and millet rice, is a hearty meal served to guests by farmers, representing sincere friendship and the joys of rural life, showcasing simplicity and warmth.
