Carol of the Bells Christmas & New Years Dubstep bass and acoustic mix

The holidays aren't the holidays without some skull rattling. Here's my first dubstep -- a song that we usually associate with Christmas, but turns out it was originally a chant used in Ukraine at the start of the new year before Christianity was introduced there. So, it's really a new years song. HAPPY NEW YEAR! And, happy b-day to me with the song that has come to be known as Carol of the Bells.

Another interesting thing about the original version of this song (called the Generous One), was how it dealt with time. It would switch between 3/4 and 6/8. I decided to play around with some time signature mixing of my own and used a 6/8 with a straight 4/4 layered in during the heavy parts.

From WIKIPEDIA:
Origins
The song is based on a traditional folk chant. It was associated with the coming New Year which, in pre-Christian Ukraine, was originally celebrated with the coming of Spring in April. (This explains the reason why the original Ukrainian text speaks about a swallow returning and lambs being born.)

With the introduction of Christianity to Ukraine, and the adoption of the Julian calendar, the celebration of the New Year was moved from April to January, and the holiday the chant originally was associated with, became the Feast of Epiphany (also known in Ukrainian as Shchedry vechir). The songs sung for this celebration are known as Schedrivky (the Generous One).

The original Ukrainian text tells the tale of a swallow flying into a household to proclaim the plentiful and bountiful year that the family will have. The title is derived from the Ukrainian word for "bountiful." The period for the birth of animals and the return of swallows to Ukraine however does not correspond to the current calendar season of winter.

In Ukraine, the chant is currently sung on the eve of the Julian New Year.
