Brew and Review Episode #15 - June Angel's Cup Flight

Описание к видео Brew and Review Episode #15 - June Angel's Cup Flight

In episode 15 of Brew & Review, Mike and I tried a blind taste test of four coffees from Angel's Cup. Angels' Cup is a subscription service that allows you to explore new coffees and train your palate to appreciate new flavor profiles.

Angel's Cup
We recommended Angel's Cup about a year and a half ago, and they're still helping coffee lovers expand their knowledge and familiarity with roasters and coffee. This is from their site:

Our mission is to help you develop a superhuman sense of taste by building your vocabulary, and exposing you to all the hues, tints, tones, and shades of coffee.

Pretty nice, huh? We tried four coffee this week: Two from Little Amps Coffee and two from Land & Water Coffee.

Peru- San Ignacio, Cristian Lavan Santos
Congo- Kivu, SOPACDI
Brazil- Cerrado Mineiro, Mirante
Ethiopia- Yirgacheffe, Konga

Peru- San Ignacio, Cristian Lavan Santos (#5404)
I incorrectly guessed a Kenyan coffee on this one. Mike thought we were in Africa as well, but this coffee was from Peru. I can't remember if we'd ever had a Peruvian coffee before, and by the time we drank this one- our palates were a little shot. Here are the flavor notes:
-Tobacco
-Oak
-Rum
-Florals

I did not get any of the flavor notes listed. We thought this was the darkest coffee out of the four. Mike and I both enjoyed this one immensely, but our palates were exhausted at this point. We both thought it was very sweet and delicious.

Congo- Kivu, SOPACDI (#5405)
Mike was confident this coffee was a Kenyan, but I drank this now after drinking #5406. My game was totally off and I doubted what I tasted. Here were the listed flavor notes:
-Rooibos
-Kiwi
-Mango

Neither of us had any idea what rooibos tea is, but we didn't get any of these flavors. Mike and I both enjoyed the complex cup, but thought we got more crabapple or cranberry than kiwi.

Brazil- Cerrado Mineiro, Mirante (#5406)
I didn't get any of the flavor notes listed below, and I totally guessed Africa instead of South America for this coffee. I tasted an earthy mushroom flavor, and didn't enjoy this coffee much.
-Chocolate
-Peanut
-Almond

Angel's Cup said the flavor reminded them of baby powder, but I didn't get any of that. They seem to have all kinds of great flavor reminders on deck for their cards.

Ethiopia- Yirgacheffe, Konga (#5407)
We both correctly guessed a washed Ethiopian coffee for this one. I thought I tasted grapes, but Angel's Cup listed the following flavor notes:
-Peach
-Lemon
-Frosted Flakes

I didn't get any frosted flakes. At all. But Mike thought he got some grapefruit from it. Still, he did call grapefruit a stone fruit instead of a citrus- so still a fail.
