The National Ataxia Foundation is proud to host this webinar presented by Dr. Jérôme Honnorat on June 27th, 2023. In "All About Immune-Mediated Ataxia", he teaches us how the disease is studied and gives an overview of the current state of research and drug development.

About the Speaker:

Jérôme Honnorat, MD, PhD is a neuro-oncologist at the Neurological hospital of Lyon with a particular interest in paraneoplastic neurological syndromes (PNS) and autoimmune encephalitis (AE) with a particular interest on immune cerebellar ataxia. His main research is to describe the clinical specificities of AE and PNS and to identify new biomarkers of these diseases, leading to patents and close relationships with industrial companies developing diagnostic tests (see BETPSY website: https://www.rhu-betpsy.fr/). J. Honnorat has conducted several research projects in the field of PNS and AE, from fundamental studies on the role of the antigens in brain development and in synapse functioning, to translational studies to validate autoantibodies as diagnostic biomarkers and to understand the immune breakdown leading to these immune diseases, to clinical studies to describe the specificities of these patients at clinical biological and genetic level. He described cerebellar ataxia with anti-GAD65 autoantibodies, paraneoplastic cerebellar ataxia with anti-CV2/CRMP5 autoantibodies and participated to many different works to describe and to understand mechanisms of immune cerebellar ataxia. After 30 years of work in this field, he has lead and participated in many different national and international programs and published several international guidelines on the subject.

About the Series:

NAF is producing a series of monthly educational webinars that focus on one type of Ataxia at a time. Each month we will feature a different type. Clinical experts will join us to take a look at the causes and symptoms of the disease, the typical diagnostic journey for those affected, and what to expect for clinical care. Research experts will teach us how the disease is studied and give an overview of the current state of research and drug development.
