The 1997 Toyota Century V12 is considered by many to be the pinnacle of Toyota’s car manufacturing capabilities. Some even go further to say it is the pinnacle of car manufacturing across the board. The second-generation Century (also called the G50) is the only Japanese production car to feature a V12 engine, called the 1GZ-FE. It uses two ECUs for either bank of cylinders and comes equipped with five individual sets of mufflers to ensure occupants will never hear it. Instead of leather, the interior is lined with wool; it’s resistant to moisture and heat, and also muffles sound. There’s a DVD player, an in-car phone, and even a passthrough in the front passenger seat so rear occupants can put their legs through. This is a true luxury. Toyota Century is still in production today. After another 20-year production run, Toyota revealed the third generation of the Century in 2018. Pivoting towards ultra-exclusivity, Toyota now limits production to 50 cars a year, as the Century is nearly a “hand-built” vehicle. There are also reports that Toyota is preparing to launch an SUV version of the Century. 1997 Toyota Century V12 is powered by a 5.0 L 1GZ-FE V12 engine, rated at 206 kW (276 hp; 280 PS) in Japanese models and 220 kW (295 hp; 299 PS) at 5200 rpm in export models.
