Lake Louise is one of the most beautiful lakes in the world! It was named after Princess Louise, the daughter of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom.

This was not our first time visiting the lake together. In fact, we visited the lake in October 2019 when there was still snow! I must admit that I like it better without the snow because we were able to see the vibrant colours of the lake and its surroundings. From the tall green trees, the mountains, glaciers, icy-blue water, overcast blue sky – it is just perfection.

Most visitors to Lake Louise come to see the beautiful view, and take that one-of-a-kind photo for their Instagram feed or for their story. After they’ve taken their pictures, they move on to the next attraction in Banff National Park (don’t get me wrong, this was also us when we first visited). The problem is, that “one-of-a-kind photo” is not really one-of-a-kind.

Everyone seems to take their photos at the exact same spot–the viewpoint after the path from the parking lot and the viewpoint in front of the Fairmont Hotel (again, we also did this and there’s completely nothing wrong with taking pictures at these two spots). But if you really want to have that unique photo, we suggest that you try one of the hikes to get a different perspective of the lake. Or in our case, explore the other places nearby!

We hiked up to Lake Agnes Teahouse which is located at the right side of the lake. Another trail that we thought about doing is the Fairview Lookout trail located at the left side of the lake. We are not experienced hikers and this was actually our first hike in over two years! Hence, we chose the trail that had food at the end…
