Virginia's First emPATH Unit | & so much more podcast

On this episode of, “& So Much More,” we ventured outside our studio to a new space at Centra’s Lynchburg General Hospital! Join Cami Smith and James Bryant, Vice President of Emergency Services, as they walk us through the new emPATH Unit–the first of its kind in Virginia.

EmPATH which stands for Emergency Psychiatric Assessment, Treatment and Healing is a new approach to long standing care challenges for Emergency Department patients with behavioral health issues. In contrast to traditional care models, the emPATH Unit is thoughtfully designed to facilitate socialization, interaction and movement. The open floor plan aims to aid in patient healing and engagement as a home-like care setting, separate from the medical ER.

Together, James and Cami explore how this calming environment was intentionally designed to address and aid in the management of behavioral health crises as well as reduce wait times in the emergency room.
