Elgin High Football: AT NAPERVILLE CENTRAL Novenber 4 1992

Elgin came into this game not at all intimidated by Naperville despite the fact that Elgin had only beaten Naperville once ever, a 16-8 win in 1972. Naperville put the first points on the board on a 40 yard Paul Schwantes field goal at 2:36 of the first quarter. Donnie Johnson ran the ensuing kickoff 86 yar ds for a touchdown at 2:23 and Rich Busch's extra point kick gave Elgin a 7-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. Tony Barranco put Naperville back ahead on a 43 yard punt return and also ran it in for two to give the RedHawks an 11-7 lead at 7:36 of the second quarter. Naperville scored again on a 37 yard Jason Jones pass to Tyler Turnquist with 1:31 left in the half and Schwantes added the extra point. Barranco scored on a three yard run, kick good, at 7:30 of the third quarter. Schwantes nailed a 36 yard field goal with 2:49 left in the third and Naperville led 28-7 after three. Jones ran it in from sevenyards out, kick good, to close out the scoring with 10:05 left in the game. Naperville played at St. Charles in the next round and won 23-21.
