In this episode, we show you how to start a VFD Drive using the 2 wire start mode. In this example, we are using an Allen Bradley Powerflex 4, but you could use just about any drive and accomplish the same thing. For this drive, we had to set parameter 36 to enable the 2 wire start command. In a different drive, the parameters will also be different, but almost any other drive will be able to do the same thing. You will need to refer to the literature that came with your drive to set up the parameters correctly.

We then show you how to use a standard 3 wire start-stop circuit with an ice cube relay to start and stop the VFD Drive. We also discuss some best practices for how to protect your drive by wiring the start-stop power through an auxiliary contact on the motor disconnect.
