Pediatric brain cancer is the deadliest cancer for children and young adults. But there is hope, the Pacific Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Consortium (PNOC) is striving for breakthroughs.

In 2020 PNOC Foundation were honored to spend a day with three heroes in the fight for better outcomes for all kids with DIPG and other deadly brain cancers: DIPG patient advocate Jace Ward and his mom Lisa Ward, and PNOC founder Dr. Michael Prados.

What is PNOC? The Pacific Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Consortium (PNOC) is a unique collaboration, an international consortium with study sites within the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia. Guided by the leadership of Dr. Sabine Mueller, Dr. Michael Prados and Dr. Cassie Line, PNOC are dedicated to bringing new therapies to children and young adults with brain tumors. The goal is to improve outcomes by translating the latest findings in brain tumor biology into better treatments for these children and young adults.

Patients with brain tumors that cannot be treated with standard therapy, or that have recurred following standard therapy, are often eligible for clinical trials. Clinical trials provide access to promising new treatments that may not be available outside specialized centers.

At PNOC, the focus is personalized medicine – testing new therapies that are specific to the biology of each patient’s tumor to maximize their effectiveness.
