In this video, you will learn how to manually program a TCC sanitary rtd sensor from ifm. The TCC series temperature sensor is a smart sensor with an external LED light to indicate sensor calibration health. It was designed to ensure confidence in your temperature sensor measurements, by including an internal alert that functions similarly to a ‘check engine’ light in your car dashboard. If the sensor light turns blue, it means you should check the sensor, as drift might be detected or the media fell outside of your specified tolerance range.

This temperature sensor is able to communicate this diagnostic information due to the dual sensing technology inside the rtd sensor tip. It includes a Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) element and a Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) element. Because these two technologies read temperature in opposite directions, the microprocessor is able to measure the differential between the two readings and alert you to a potential decrease in accuracy. This provides redundancy in measuring temperature to ensure product safety and quality. You no longer need to wait until a calibration check to verify if a sensor has drifted, but instead would be notified immediately if this happened to occur. The construction of this sensor is 3A approved, providing the highest level of integrity for sanitary applications. The TCC is commonly used on:

• Pasteurization systems
• CIP Skids
• Cold storage vessels
• Tank farms

The embedded IO-Link technology provides dual temperature element values over a single wire and provides high measurement resolution without scaling. It is easy to program for recipe changes and for automatic device replacement. Temperature data can be sent to any higher level software systems for trending, traceability, and real-time process monitoring. It also has internal memory for minimum and maximum temperature readings, and includes the current calibration check status. The LED light on the sensor itself provides a quick visual check of the sensor’s diagnostic health.

The sensor has been put through extreme testing in the lab at the ifm manufacturing facility, located in Malvern, PA, USA. The testing includes simulating the thermal shocks of CIP cycles to ensure there is no drift or failure due to fatigue of electronic components, and measuring the impact of shocks due to high velocity flow & water hammer on the weld strength.
