Having never really been much of a Gundam guy myself, I have to admit that I almost gave this anime a pass had it not come to my attention that YOASOBI did the OP for it! Listened to the song, watched the anime, gained an enhanced appreciation for the lyrics from it, and now it's on my on-repeat playlist on Spotify for the foreseeable future. YOASOBI never seems to miss, and I really look forward to their future works!

This was yet another very challenging song to cover. Arrangement wise, it's not all too exciting--no fancy techniques, just the bread-and-butter percussion and some contortionist fretting (doesn't look like it, but it sure felt like it). Actually trying to play it well, though, surfaced all kinds of flaws in my playing technique. For one, I think my plucking hand is moving way too much--especially during string slaps--causing me not only to miss beats at high speeds, but also to entirely miss strings too often. Consistency and repeatability on the guitar have always been an issue for me, and it's very demoralising whenever I fail to consistently execute a technique I believe I should know pretty well by this point.

Maybe I'm vastly underestimating the amount of time and effort it takes to nurture the fine control required for the level of repeatability I see in other guitarists. Maybe I've actually already made a lot of progress on that front, but since memory is very fallable (especially mine) I am unable to perceive it for what it is and I'm just being ungrateful. Regardless, I still love what I'm doing, and I'll keep doing it, believing that along the way, with enough careful searching, I'll eventually find the answers I need. The next cover is already in the works and I'm really excited for it, so stay tuned! 😊

Also, you might be wondering about the guitar I'm using here. The guitar I've been using in my previous covers is my newest one, the Taylor Academy 12. The one I'm using in this cover is one I've had for a few years now, the Martin Dreadnought Jr. The Taylor was suffering from severe fret wear and exhibiting some nasty fret buzz on the high-E, so now it's currently on retreat at the local luthier enjoying a good fret levelling. Can't wait for it to be back in my hands for the next cover!
