Paganini Caprice 24 on Viola

Описание к видео Paganini Caprice 24 on Viola

Caprice No. 24 in a minor for solo violin by Niccolo Paganini (arranged for solo viola by Raby/Preucil in d minor)

I attempted this piece for the first time 3 years ago. After practicing it (on and off) for about a year and a half, I finally feel some satisfaction with my performance. Obviously it's not perfect and I had to modify it in both small and large ways in order for it to sound decent on viola. However, I do feel that I have prioritized the spirit of the piece as a virtuosic yet expressive work that seems to overcome a struggle from beginning to end. In my opinion, the viola's imperfections as an instrument contribute to this spirit and enhance the darkness present in the piece.

Also, some parts do sound really epic on viola...

(On the topic of Twoset Violin's recent video, hopefully no company claims that this is their recording--but we'll see. It was written more than 200 years ago and this is obviously my own playing!)
