Bikaner railway station was constructed in 1891 with a Rs. 3,46,000 donation by Rai Bahadur Dewan Bahadur Sir Kasturchand Daga, a known trader from the city.
In 1889, the two states of Jodhpur and Bikaner formed the Jodhpur–Bikaner Railway to promote railway development jointly within the Rajputana Agency. In 1891 the 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in)-wide metre-gauge Jodhpur–Bikaner line was opened. In 1901–02, the metre-gauge line was extended to Bathinda.
The Jodhpur–Bikaner track, along with the link to Phulera, had been taken in/before 1991 for conversion to 5 ft 6 in (1,676 mm) broad gauge. According to a Press Information Bureau release issued in 2008, the Jodhpur–Merta City–Bikaner–Bathinda line was broad gauge.
The Bikaner–Rewari line was converted to broad gauge during the period 2008–2011.
The Bikaner (Lalgarh) workshop was set up in 1926. It carries out periodic overhauling of metre gauge coaches and wagons.
Bikaner Heritage Rail Museum at Bikaner displays items related to the Jodhpur and Bikaner Railway era. It was opened in 2012. Turban Museum in platform one open on 2021. Displays longest turban and smallest turban in world made by a Bikaner artist.
Delhi Sarai Rohilla Terminal railway station (station code: DEE) is situated about 4 kilometres (2+1⁄2 mi) from old Delhi railway junction in India. It is managed by Delhi Division of Northern Railway zone. Many trains from Delhi to Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat stop at this station. More than twenty trains including Duronto and AC trains originate at this station.
Delhi Sarai Rohilla Terminal railway station has been developed as a terminus. Many trains originating from Delhi city towards Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Mumbai now start from Sarai Rohilla railway station and end there. It has a ticket reservation centre, three washing lines for train rakes and five platforms. Two platforms of adjacent Vivekanandpuri railway halt are connected to Sarai Rohilla railway station by a common foot overbridge.
Anand Vihar Terminal and Hazrat Nizamuddin Terminal are two more railway terminals in the city of Delhi from where many regional and long-distance trains originate.
The nearest metro station is "Shastri Nagar" (Red Line), which is about 1km from the railway station.
