---- Short History ----
- Built in the early 14th century by the de la Bere family, stewards to William De Braose, as a fortified manor house.
- It consisted of a gateway, a hall and kitchen, a chapel block and an east range, enclosing a courtyard.
- Largely constructed of rubble masonry with window and door features of sandstone.
- The South West tower was originally a separate structure and may be the oldest but of the building.
- It included many living chambers, including one above the gatehouse.
- It was attacked and damaged by the forces of Owain Glyndŵr in the early 15th century, but most of the building was left standing.
- After this it was owned by Sir Rhys ap Thomas. Rhys’s grandson though was executed for treason in 1531 and Weobley fell to the crown (King Henry VIII).
- It was eventually sold and leased to tenants until the 20th century until the last owner gave it to the state in 1911.
- It is now open to the public and includes a museum.
